Unissued Hungarian M1990 Woodland Field Shirt

Hungary has a long history of producing camouflage for its military beginning just before WWII. Throughout the Cold War they issued camouflage uniforms to special troops such as border guards and reconnaissance units.

This camouflage pattern was adopted in 1994 but developed four years earlier. Its coloration was created to be similar to woodland patterns in use by NATO members at the time. It was believed that this aesthetic choice would foster Hungarian integration with Western nations following the fall of communism.

Field uniforms and a wide array of equipment have been produced in this pattern. The M1990 pattern still serves the Hungarian military today, but is scheduled to be replaced by a national variant of MultiCam in coming years.
