Most of these featured brown and green strokes in waving patterns spread horizontally over base colors ranging from khaki to green. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt was after France's failed struggle to retain Vietnam that South Vietnamese forces began manufacturing their own interpretation of Lizard camouflage. The earliest examples were made for the Vietnamese Marine Corps circa 1957; these early designs used large black stripes over smaller brown stripes with light green over an olive base color. Ever since its genesis, there has been a dizzying array of sub-variations.
