The papakha, a traditional Caucasian hat, has a rich history deeply rooted in the mountainous regions of the Caucasus. Originally crafted from sheep's wool, this distinctive hat features a high, cylindrical shape and a flat top, often made more resilient with fur, typically from sheep or karakul lambs.

Historically worn by local warriors and shepherds as protection against the harsh mountain climate, the papakha has also been a symbol of status and cultural identity. Over time, it gained prominence in Russian military attire, particularly among Cossack units, symbolizing valor and endurance.

These papakhas are constructed with genuine sheepskin and wool. They are traditionally a one size fits all piece of headwear, so please bear this in mind when ordering. They do tend to run quite large, closest to XL and XXL head sizes.
